Pre-Season Announcements and Schedule for Sign-Ups

Dear Parents,

Swim team signups for the WindRose Stingrays Swim Team are just a few weeks away.  The purpose of this email is to pass along news regarding signups for the 2009 season and other key information.

Special Notes on Registration This Season

Parents please note that team admission requires the ability to swim the length of the pool unassisted in the freestyle stroke.  (Stopping on the rope for a short break is ok as long as the swimmer can demonstrate proficiency in the stroke.)   We have publicized this rule for several seasons.   However, this season, it will be strictly enforced in order to be fair to the team as a whole.  Any new swimmers who were not members in a prior season must pass the swim test on their first day of practice in order to join.  As in prior years, refunds will be available during the initial week of practice for those who decide the team is not a fit this year.

Several learn-to-swim programs and individual swim instructors are available in the local area for new swimmers, should you have any concern about your child's swimming ability.  If you have a child that cannot yet swim, make your plans now as we are hearing that some of the learn-to-swim programs are starting to fill up.  Please contact the Board for any questions or concerns on this policy.

Team Suits

The official team supplier this season will be D&J Sports, located at 11407 Spring Cypress Road.  D&J will be offering great incentives and discounts for the team again this year, including a free TYR Tote bag with each team swim suit purchased and 10% discounts on store purchases for all WindRose swimmers at D&J’s retail store on Spring Cypress.

D&J will be attending two signup dates (March 22nd and 28th) for swim suit fittings and sales, and will also be at the pool for sales on April 24th.  Team suits will also be available at D&J’s retail location in April.

Note that this year the team will be utilizing the same team suit design from TYR that we have used for several years (no change).

Questions / Volunteer Opportunities / Sponsors

We will need parent volunteers to make this year’s season a success.  More information about volunteering will be available at Registration. If there are ways you would like to help the team this year, please let me or one of the Board members know.  In addition, each family will be required to submit a $100 volunteer deposit to be returned at the end of the season pending fulfillment of volunteer requirements.

If you work for a company that is looking for ways to help the community and get a tax deduction, please remember that the Swim Team is a 501(c)3 entity.  Banner sponsorships are available for cash donations of $500 or more.  Additional sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available—please contact Chad for details ().

Thanks and looking forward to seeing all of our families back this season!
