The 'Yard of the Month' is selected by WindRose Garden Club members accompanied by the Chairman of the 'Yard of the Month' committee.
The winning yards are selected each month between March - November. Judging is during the last week of these months.
The winning yard will be able to display the "Yard of the Month" sign on the first of the month. Once a yard has received the 'Yard of the Month' award, it is ineligible for twelve (12) months.
Note: Only 'mature' yards are included as candidates. The yard must not have had 'major landscaping reconstruction' performed within the six months in order to be considered a candidate.
Guidelines for Judging
- OVERALL: Landscaping design should be compatible with architecture of house, following basic design principles.
- GRASS: Green, except in winter: mowed and edged; weed free.
- BEDS: Cleaned, edged and mulched.
- COLOR: Color contrasts, balanced placement of colored shrubs, use of seasonal flowers and bulbs to add contrast.
- GENERAL: Includes neatness, well-hidden utilities, (air conditioner hidden by shrubs), garden tools, garbage cans, toys, etc. kept out of sight. No "For Sale" signs in the yard.
- SHRUBS: Neatly pruned.
- WALKS & CURBS: Swept and cleaned.
